General Information

I obtained a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Rome, “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy and a Master of Public Health from The Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, New York, NY.
In light of the AIDS crisis, I joined Dr. Landau’s Lab as a post-doctoral fellow, where I participated in the seminal discovery of the cellular co-receptor (CCR5) that HIV uses during entry into the cells.
As a scientist, I worked with highly specialized teams and published widely on subjects such as viral-host interactions and immunopathogenesis with a particular focus on HIV and inflammatory processes. More recently, I have acquired a strong background in thee field of public health and experience carrying out community-based research and epidemiological investigations. I has been awarded the prestigious Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Fellowship Award, the NSLIJHS Research Award, the Gilead Investigator-Sponsored Award as principal investigator, and the Patient-Centered Outocomes Research Institute grant as co-investigator.
Throughout my research and teaching career, I have trained medical students and medical fellows as well as post-docs in the field of biomedical research.
